Freight traffic along the Northern Sea Route has increased sixfold in five years

By 2034, the cargo carriage volume should reach 100 million tons

The cargo carriage volume along the Northern Sea Route has increased sixfold in five years, said the head of the Ministry of Eastern Development Alexei Chekunkov at the visiting session of the EEF, which is being held in the Russian pavilion at EXPO 2020 in Dubai.

"The Northern Sea Route is the fastest growing world sea corridor. The volume of freight traffic on it has increased sixfold over the past five years. <...> Our goal is 100 million tons by 2034. Now Russia is building a fleet of icebreakers and container ships," he said.

The Minister also invited the participants of EXPO 2020 to the Eastern Economic Forum in September 2022 and to the Arctic Forum in St. Petersburg. Earlier, the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Denis Manturov said that the Russian pavilion is one of the three most visited at EXPO 2020 in Dubai. The main idea of ​​the Russian exposition - "The Mechanics of a Miracle" is centered on a giant sculpture of the brain, accompanied by projection technologies that represent neural connections in the brain. On the ground floor of the pavilion there are temporary expositions of various exhibitors: Russian regions, business and culture.
