The "Snowflake" international Arctic station can become a platform for dialogue in high latitudes

The meeting of senior officials for the coordination of scientific research in the Arctic, chaired by Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Natalya Bocharova, scheduled under the Russian Chairmanship of the Arctic Council in 2021-2023, took place in Moscow. It was attended by representatives of the member countries of the Arctic Council - Denmark, Iceland, Canada, Norway, Russia, USA, Sweden and Finland, working groups of the Arctic Council and the organization of Arctic indigenous peoples.

"The Russian Chairmanship is aimed at increasing the efficiency of scientific activities and the practical applicability of its results in the Arctic. We are going to promote the use of advanced technologies and best practices in the implementation of joint projects," emphasized the Ambassador-at-Large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Chairman of the Committee of Senior Officials of the Arctic Council Nikolay Korchunov.

In his opinion, the “Snowflake” international Arctic station in Yamal can become such a platform for scientific cooperation in high latitudes.

The participants of the meeting also discussed the need to develop common priorities for scientific research in the Arctic, issues of strengthening international Arctic scientific cooperation, arranging joint scientific competitions for research projects, the possibility of creating a common international research database of the Arctic countries.

The results of the discussion of Russian initiatives will be presented at the plenary meeting of the Arctic Council on December 1–2 in Salekhard.

As "Bi-Port" reported, Russia has replaced Finland as the chair of the Arctic Council.
